Employment counselors at Homeboy play an important role as they act as intermediaries between employers, trainees and community clients.
This is a critical service and entry point for many clients. Visible gang tattoos are a major barrier to entry in employment and education, and our clients often hope to remove them to set an example for their children.
All trainees at Homeboy Industries are immediately placed with a case manager who helps them to create a goal-oriented service plan, guides their progress through necessary services, and holds them accountable as they move toward a better life.
A full-time lawyer on site provides workshops, one-on-one guidance, support and referrals for criminal and civil issues, including assistance with clearing warrants, expungements, resolution of child custody issues and other legal matters.
The Educational Services Department honors our trainees and community clients by meeting them where they are when they walk through our doors. From our high school equivalancy test preparation courses and one-on-one tutoring, to our core curriculum of life skills classes, personal development, wellness, and substance abuse support groups – Homeboy Industries provides a wide-ranging curriculum, Monday through Friday, to over 300 participants monthly.
We recognize the transformational power of education and self-improvement as key components which empower our Homeboy community, easing their reintegration and allowing them to redirect their lives to re-identify with the truth of who they are.
We are grateful for our numerous volunteers and programmatic partners who enable us to make these free services possible.
