Employment counselors at Homeboy play an important role as they act as intermediaries between employers, trainees and community clients.
The Educational Services department offers over 40 free classes to our trainees and community clients each week. We honor each individual by meeting them where they are when they walk through our doors. From our core curriculum of life skills, personal development and wellness classes, to our high school equivalancy test preparation courses and tutoring, as well as a variety of support groups and court-mandated classes – Homeboy Industries offers a wide-ranging curriculum, Monday through Friday, to over 300 participants monthly.
We recognize the power that education has on reducing recidivism, building self-confidence, and allowing for healthy, successful reintegration into the community. We strive to create a nurturing, healing space for individuals to tap into their strengths so they can re-identify with the truth of who they are.
We are grateful for our numerous volunteers and program partners who enable us to make these free services possible.
This is a critical service and entry point for many clients. Visible gang tattoos are a major barrier to entry in employment and education, and our clients often hope to remove them to set an example for their children.
All trainees at Homeboy Industries are immediately placed with a case manager who helps them to create a goal-oriented service plan, guides their progress through necessary services, and holds them accountable as they move toward a better life.
Homeboy's team of volunteer attorneys provides workshops, one-on-one guidance, support and referrals for criminal and civil issues, including assistance with clearing warrants, expungements, resolution of child custody issues and other legal matters.
